MOOSE

Moose Hunting

Hunting is accomplished by a combination of travel over gravel logging roads and stopping in areas of good moose habitat to make cow calls and bull grunts. Bull moose are commonly called from as far away as 1/2 mile. Normally, only bulls will respond to calls. Because cows don't normally respond to calls, they are usually hunted exclusively by traveling logging roads and visually locating them. The areas that we hunt are Wildlife Management Districts 18, 19, and 28. There is excellent habitat and a very healthy moose population in these WMD's. The statewide moose hunt success ratio is approximately 80%.
