Note: A bear hunting permit is required
in addition to a hunting license to hunt for bear before
the firearm season on deer.
During the firearms season on deer, nonresidents
and aliens are required to obtain a November (late season)
bear permit (if they do not already possess the early season
bear permit) to hunt bear. One bear may be taken annually,
either by hunting or trapping.

MOOSE (by
permit only)
Hunters
holding valid moose permits and their designated subpermittee
may hunt moose in one of twenty five Wildlife Management
Districts (WMD's), which cover over 21,000 square miles.
Successful bidders of the moose auction may select the hunting
zone of their choice.
2011 Season Dates and Areas Open to Moose
Hunting
September 26 through October 1, 2011
- (WMD's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 19).
October 10 through October 15, 2011 -
WMD's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17,
18, 19, 27 and 28.
November 7 through November 12, 2011
- WMD's 2, 3, 6, and 11.
October 31 through November 26, 2011
- WMD's 15, 16, 22, 23, 25, and 26.
October 29, 2011 (Maine Residents Only)
- WMD's 15, 16, 22, 23, 25, and 26.
Applicants may indicate season and WMD
preferences, and may check a box if they do not want an
antlerless-only permit. Successful applicants will receive
either a bull only permit or an antlerless only permit.
Permits for the November season are any-moose permits (which
allow the taking of either a bull or a cow).
Number of Permits to be issued in 2011:
3,205 - No more than 10% of the permits in each District
will be issued to nonresidents.
Moose Application Deadline:
You can apply
online until 11:59 PM on May 13, 2011. If you must use
a paper application, they must be postmarked by April 1,
2011, or delivered to 284 State Street in Augusta by 5:00
PM on April 1, 2011.

* NOTE: A SMALL GAME LICENSE permits
the hunting of all species except deer, bear, turkey, moose,
raccoon and bobcat.
Applicants for an adult hunting license
must show proof of having previously held an adult license
to hunt with firearms in any year beginning with 1976 or
successful completion of an approved hunter safety course.
Residents must provide proof of residency when applying
for a license.
To obtain an adult archery hunting license,
you must show proof of having held an adult license to hunt
with bow and arrow in any year since 1979 or successful
completion of an archery education course.
You are required to keep your hunting
license and any necessary permits with you while hunting
or transporting wild birds and wild animals and must show
it to any warden, law enforcement officer, Department employee,
guide or landowner upon whose land you are hunting if requested.
